BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities are investigating after a man and his dog died in a house fire in Battle Creek Friday morning.
The fire started around 4 a.m. at the house located at 226 Martha Drive near the intersection of G Drive and Capital Avenue SW. When crews arrived, the main living area was engulfed in flames.
Battle Creek Fire Department Battalion Chief Michele Hughey told 24 Hour News 8 that an elderly man and his dog were pulled out of house but both later died. The name of the victim has not yet been released.
Investigators say the fire extensively damaged the roof, kitchen and living room of the home.
The Battle Creek fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze and if there were any working smoke detectors in the house.
