Kzoo man arrested for murder of missing woman

Kalamazoo and Battle Creek

COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A Kalamazoo man is in custody in connection to the case of a missing woman found dead in a Kalamazoo County creek.

Relatives reported 24-year-old Aniya Monyahe missing around 1:30 a.m. Thursday after not hearing from her since June 24.

Around 3 a.m., officers located a person of interest in the woman’s disappearance near her home in the 400 block of W Michigan Avenue.

While investigating the disappearance, police discovered a body in a creek off E Main Street near 26th Street in Comstock Township. While detectives are waiting for a formal identification of the body, police said it matches the description of the missing woman.

KDPS Acting Capt. Craig Habel would not say whether the person of interest told police where to find the body.

“I can just tell you after speaking with him, we located the body,” he said.

The person of interest, a 25-year-old Kalamazoo man, was arrested and is being held on an open murder charge.

“I would say there was a confession,” Habel said. “I don’t want to get into the details at this time.”

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety at 269.337.8994 or Silent Observer at 269.343.2100.
