KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — The suspect in a deadly Kalamazoo liquor store shooting who was arrested in Wyoming has been formally charged.

Jerome Calvin Oday II of Kalamazoo  was arraigned Monday on five counts, including open murder in connection to the death of 23-year-old Tykarri Shaheed Lucas of Benton Harbor.

Police say an argument led to the early Saturday morning shooting at J & B Discount Liquor, located at 110 W. Stockbridge Avenue. The suspect left the scene after the shooting and Lucas died at the scene, despite attempts to revive him.

The investigation led officers to the 2900 block of West Avenue, near 28th Street between Byron Center and Burlingame avenues in Wyoming. That’s where a SWAT team took the suspect into custody without incident.

Oday is also charged with two counts of felony firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, and carrying a concealed weapon.

The judge denied bond for the 27-year-old man. His next court date is scheduled for Sept. 26.
