KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A Kalamazoo resident has been arrested in connection to the death of a 7-month-old child.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says the 38-year-old suspect is facing charges of felony murder and first-degree child abuse in connection to Wednesday’s death. Detectives say the suspect was responsible for the infant’s care, but they are not releasing his or her name until arraignment.
Officers found the baby unresponsive in a home in the 1200 block of Summit Avenue, west of Douglas Avenue, Wednesday. Crews tried to revive the baby, but the child ultimately died at Bronson Methodist Hospital.
Detectives said they arrested the caretaker Thursday.
Authorities are not releasing the suspect’s name until he or she is formally charged in the case. They are also withholding the baby’s name until arraignment.
