KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities helped rescue a woman from the Kalamazoo River Sunday while passing canoers saved her things from her sinking kayak.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says the kayak got caught up in some debris near Mayor’s Riverfront Park and started filling with water. The woman wasn’t hurt and managed to get out of the water along an abandoned train trestle, but she couldn’t get to shore.
Rescue crews got the woman and took her back to her family members, who were also kayaking along the river.
Meanwhile, two people paddling by in canoes offered to help, freeing the kayak from the debris and getting the woman’s cellphone, wallet and car keys.
KDPS thanked the two anonymous good Samaritans.
