KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Kalamazoo police are looking for the man who stole a car and then caused a crash Tuesday.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says a sergeant spotted the stolen car around 12:45 p.m. near the intersection of Vine Street and S. Westnedge Avenue. The sergeant tried to pull the driver over but he took off.

The sergeant gave chase. A short distance away, the suspect crashed the stolen car into another vehicle. Officers stopped chasing the suspect to help the other driver.

Authorities later found the stolen car on 2nd Street near Portage Street, less than a mile away from where it was first spotted. The driver was nowhere to be found.

The suspect was described as a white man around 20 years old with short, dark-colored hair and a trimmed beard.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call KDPS at 269.337.8994 or Silent Observer at 269.343.2100.
