KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Department has recently received new information that leads them to believe they know what happened in a 1983 cold case, according to Undersheriff Paul Matyas.

One person of interest in the investigation into Erik Stirling Cross’ death is being held on unrelated charges. However, the sheriff’s department believes it knows who else was involved in the crime and cover up. Deputies are advising those involved to come forward before the upcoming arrests and criminal charges.

Cross, who was a 16-year-old Vicksburg High School student at the time, was found dead in the 5100 block of Y Avenue on June 26, 1983 in Brady Township. He had attended a party earlier in the morning and was walking home when he was struck and killed by a vehicle. Witnesses reported seeing two men and one woman inside the vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to call KCSD at 269.383.8723 or Silent Observer.
