Gunfire in Kalamazoo narrowly misses child in vehicle

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Kalamazoo officers are looking for a gunman who fired shots at a car, narrowly missing a child.

The shooting happened after 10 p.m. Tuesday in the area of W. North Street and Douglas Avenue. An officer found the victim in a parking lot with a vehicle hit by a bullet.

Officers learned the bullet penetrated the vehicle less than a foot away from where the victim’s 12-year-old grandchild was sitting. Fortunately, no one was injured in the shooting.

A police K-9 tried to track the gunman, to no avail. Officers did not have a detailed description of the suspect.

Investigators collected several pieces of evidence at the scene.
