KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A case of mistaken identity has put a Kalamazoo baseball coach in the crosshairs of upset Cleveland Browns fans.
Browns kicker Zane Gonzales missed two field goals and two extra points during Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints. His team lost by three points, 18-21.
Angry fans flooded Twitter, and many began to vent at the wrong Zane Gonzales. Instead of the NFL kicker, they targeted the Kalamazoo Growlers’ assistant baseball coach by the same name.
Some of the comments the local Zane Gonzalez received: “How does it feel to be the reason the Browns franchise is still winless” and “I hope you stub your toe every morning for the rest of your life. I hope you get stuck in traffic every night.”
His response:”Guys, I’m just a college baseball coach. Relax.”
Zane Gonzalez served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Growlers this summer. The Comstock Park High School graduate is currently the assistant baseball coach for the University of Rio Grande in Ohio.
