PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — A driver is dead after a crash on an icy Interstate 94 in Portage.
The crash happened shortly after noon Friday on eastbound I-94 near exit 76 for Westnedge Avenue.
Portage Public Safety officers say the driver of a Ford F-250 was changing lanes when he lost control, hitting a guardrail end. The driver, a 46-year-old man from Centreville, was thrown from the vehicle. First responders tried to revive him, but he died at the scene.
A 34-year-old Three Rivers woman who was a passenger in the pickup truck was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital. Officers believe her injuries are not life-threatening.
Police shut down two lanes of eastbound I-94 and the nearby off-ramp for about four hours for investigation and cleanup.
Authorities are withholding the victims’ names until their families are notified.
