BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) — A man is in jail after Battle Creek police say he held up a store clerk and ran away with cash.

Shortly after 8 a.m. Thursday, officers were called to a business in the 500 block of Capital Avenue SW, which had just been robbed.

Officers were told the suspect walked into the store and pretended to buy an item. When the cashier opened the till to complete his purchase, police say the man pulled out a gun, pointed it at the worker, reached over the counter and took cash from the drawer. The robber then ran from the store.

Six minutes after police got the call, an officer spotted the suspect, ran after him and caught him.

Police are withholding the 37-year-old man’s name until he’s formally charged with armed robbery.
