ALAMO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Two people are in serious condition after a rollover crash that shut down US-131 in Kalamazoo County for several hours Sunday afternoon.
It happened around 1:45 p.m. on northbound US-131 near D Avenue.
Witnesses told authorities the driver of the vehicle was driving erratically, going over the speed limit, swerving in and out of traffic and passing vehicles on both shoulders of the roadway before the crash.
The crash happened when the driver left the roadway while passing other vehicles and hit loose gravel, causing him to lose control. The vehicle then went into the ditch and rolled over multiple times, ejecting the driver and trapping a passenger inside.
Passing motorists were able to extricate the passenger from the vehicle.
The driver and passenger were taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital for treatment of their injuries. The driver is in serious condition with life-threatening injuries, and the passenger is in serious condition.
