KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities have identified the two people killed when a historic house in Kalamazoo caught fire last week.

They were 40-year-old Joshua Taylor and 38-year-old Jodee Taylor, both of Kalamazoo, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said Tuesday.

They were killed when a fire broke out Thursday night at the house on Academy Street east of W. Michigan Avenue. Firefighters tried to rescue everyone from the nine apartments in the building, but the fire was too dangerous and crews had to get out.

When KDPS started tracking down everyone who lived in the apartments, it couldn’t account for two. Crews searched the home Friday and found the bodies.

One other person was injured in the fire.

The house, referred to as the Balch Home, was the original home of The Park Club of Kalamazoo, which was formed in 1904.

Investigators say it could take some time to determine the cause of the fire because it caused so much damage.
