2 charged in Portage stabbings that injured 2

PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) —  Two Kalamazoo men have been charged in connection to two stabbings in Portage Sunday.

The Portage Department of Public Safety said 23-year-old Emilio Gallardo was charged with assault with intent to comment murder, which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison. He is being held as a parole absconder and his bond was set at $100,000.

Jose Prieto, 36, was charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm, less than murder. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. His bond was set at $50,000.

Police said two Kalamazoo residents, ages 36 and 38, were stabbed early Sunday morning in the parking lot of the Renaissance Banquet Hall on E. Kilgore Road. The victims were taken to the hospital where they were treated for their injuries and later released.

The stabbings happened during a private party with more than 200 guests. The motive is unclear.
