Kalamazoo and Battle Creek

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — An up-and-coming movie actor will take the stage in Kalamazoo Friday night.

Julie Burrows stars in “The Marvelous Wonderettes: Dream On” at Farmers Alley Theatre. The musical’s opening night is Friday — a day before her film, “Buttons” makes its national debut.

“That’s exciting… kind of going from one thing to the next,” said Burrows.  “I travel for a living and I go to different states around the U.S. and work at a lot of theatre companies, and it’s actually what’s really special about the business for me. I love it.”

“Buttons” is the first movie Burrows has starred in. It will air for one day only on Saturday at about 800 theaters nationwide, including the following West Michigan locations:

  • Celebration Cinema Rivertown | 3728 Rivertown Pkwy. SW, Grandville, MI 49418
  • Holland 7 | 500 S. Waverly Rd, Holland, MI 49423
  • Kalamazoo 10 | 820 Maple Hill Dr., Kalamazoo, MI 49009
  • West Columbia 7 | 2500 Columbia Ave W., Battle Creek, MI 49015

The movie stars Dick Van Dyke and Angela Lansbury. Kate Winslet and Robert Redford narrate. Burrows plays the mother of an orphan.

Burrows says working with Van Dyke “is epic. It is absolutely epic. Dick Van Dyke is just one of those actors that his life that he portrays on screen, ever since he was young, from the ‘Dick Van Dyke Show’ on, that’s him.”

“The Marvelous Wonderettes: Dream On” runs through Dec. 30.
