PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was hospitalized Tuesday after their vehicle was struck by a train in Portage.
It happened around 11:07 a.m. near the intersection of Shaver Road and W Melody Avenue in Portage.
A truck was traveling southbound on Shaver Road and attempted to turn onto W Melody Avenue when it passed over the railroad tracks and was struck by the train. Police said witnesses reported the red railroad crossing lights were on during the incident.
The driver was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital for treatment for injuries that were not life-threatening. A passenger in the vehicle sustained minor injuries.
Police said alcohol and drugs weren’t a factor in the crash.
