PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Kent County authorities are investigating after a teen says she was approached by a stranger while walking to school north of Grand Rapids Thursday.
The Kent County Sheriff’s Department says the 14-year-old girl told deputies it happened in the area of Providence Street and Costa Avenue NE in Plainfield Township. She said she was walking to Northview High School when a vehicle stopped.
She said the driver, a man, told her he was friends with her father and offered her a ride to school. He then told her to come closer. She said she called her friend and her friend’s mother called police. The man then drove away without harming the girl.
There wasn’t a detailed description of the man, but the vehicle was described as an older-model maroon van with a dent in the left rear bumper.
Anyone with information about the man, van or incident is asked to call the sheriff’s department at 616.632.6357 or Silent Observer at 616.774.2345.
