WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) — Police say they have found a pickup truck linked to a killing in downtown Grand Rapids earlier this week.
They also found two witnesses they wanted to speak to, but are still looking for person of interest Luis Fabian Bernal-Sosa. He’s wanted in connection to the death of Leah Gomez, who was found shot dead in the parking lot of an apartment building on Wednesday.
With an armored vehicle and officers carrying long guns, Wyoming police on Friday afternoon carried out a search warrant on Johanna Avenue near Burton Street SW. They confirmed they were helping the Grand Rapids Police Department on the Gomez case.
The pickup truck that police said Bernal-Sosa was driving was found on Johanna. News 8 saw officers searching it.
The truck belongs to Bernal Landscape. GRPD said the company itself has nothing to do with the killing and management has cooperated with the investigation.
Neighbors said police arrived on Johanna around 1 p.m. They said they saw two small children come out of a house and a third person who they described as a teenager taken into custody. Later, News 8 saw several people returning to the house.
Bernal-Sosa is the father of Gomez’s daughter and was her boyfriend. At the time of the shooting, he was already wanted for failing to show up to a court after being accused of strangling her in Wyoming last year.
Anyone with information about where Bernal-Sosa may be is asked to call GRPD detectives at 616.456.3380 or Silent Observer at 616.774.2345.
