Suspect in deadly crash arrested after leaving hospital

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The driver who took off from the hospital Tuesday after a deadly crash has been arrested. 

The Grand Rapids Police Department told 24 Hour News 8 that the suspect was found around 11 p.m. Tuesday near 28th Street and Division Avenue. He was taken into custody without incident. 

The crash happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Wilson Avenue and Leonard Street NW. The Walker Police Department says an eastbound driver ran a red light and hit a northbound motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was a 35-year-old man from Walker. His name has not been released.

The driver of the car, the only person in that vehicle, was taken to Mercy Health Saint Mary’s in Grand Rapids. He had to have his jaw wired shut. He later fled the hospital.
