GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Sparta man who beat his grandmother last year, killing her, is headed to a state prison.
Matthew Malleaux was sentenced Wednesday to between 18.5 and 30 years behind bars for the murder of 85-year-old Anne Parker.
Malleaux told investigators that on Aug. 7, 2017, he argued with his grandmother and then assaulted her. He admitted he had been drinking heavily.
There was a standoff when emergency responders arrived at the home Malleaux and Parker shared. When police saw Parker lying on the floor, they forced their way inside. There was a struggle with Malleaux that ended when officers used a Taser on him.
Parker, who sustained a head wound, broken bones and a collapsed lung, died the next day.
Malleaux, 24, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in March.
