PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was killed and several others injured in a crash on US-131 north of Grand Rapids Wednesday evening, a source told 24 Hour News 8.
It happened along the northbound lanes near the exit to West River Drive in Plainfield Township.
About seven other people were hospitalized following the crash, the source said. Their conditions were not immediately available, but the source said it appeared only one had significant injuries.
According to the source, a preliminary investigation indicates the crash happened as traffic slowed. One vehicle rear-ended a second, shoving the second car into a third. The person killed was in the second vehicle, the source said.
The names of the people involved were not immediately released.
Only one northbound lane was passable as emergency responders were the scene. At one point, traffic was backed up all the way to Leonard Street. All lanes reopened shortly before 11 p.m.
