GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Four people are in custody after a cellphone store robbery in Gaines Township that led to a standoff in Grand Rapids Tuesday night, police say.

The situation started around 7:45 p.m. at the T-Mobile cellphone store on Kalamazoo Avenue SE near 68th Street SE in Gaines Township.

The suspects were then tracked to an area near Alpine Avenue NW and 9th Street NW in Grand Rapids where investigators were already nearby following up on a recent robbery. When police arrived, they say three people took off into a store where they were confronted by the owner and refused to come out. Another suspect went into a home.

The suspect who went into the home was taken into custody shortly after, following a K-9 track.

The owner of the store left the building unharmed. The three suspects left the store and surrendered around 11 p.m. after negotiations with investigators.

The situation ended peacefully and no one was hurt.

Grand Rapids police say the suspects are all younger men and are believed to be involved in other recent incidents in the area.
