WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was hospitalized after being hit by a car in Wyoming Monday afternoon.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. on S. Division Avenue near 39th Street.

Wyoming police say the 61-year-old pedestrian was crossing the street, but was in the center turn lane rather than a crosswalk, when it happened. A car turning onto S. Division hit him, causing a serious head injury.

The driver of the car told police he didn’t see the pedestrian, but police say he had also been drinking. The driver was jailed on a charge of operating while impaired.

The suspect’s name wasn’t released Monday evening, but police said he is a 21-year-old from Grand Rapids.
