KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) — More than 100 people are expected to lose their jobs as a Kentwood plant closes its doors.
In paperwork filed with the state on Feb. 20, global food and nutrition solutions company Kerry Inc. said it will close its plant on 52nd Street NE at Broadmoor Avenue.
As a result, 107 workers are going to be laid off.
A Kerry Inc. spokesperson released the following statement Wednesday:
“To manage our business as efficiently as possible and to ensure we remain competitive, we continuously evaluate our operations and react to industry and market changes/trends to provide the best products and services to customers. While closely evaluating and monitoring the business, our customers’ needs, the facility, and cost structure, we are planning to close the Kentwood facility.
“While business decisions like these are among the most difficult to make, the transition will be made in a respectful and sensitive manner. All Kentwood employees have been notified. Kerry is working with all impacted employees to make this as smooth of a transition as possible, with extensive support and assistance throughout this process.
“We want to thank all of our employees of the Kentwood facility for their hard work, loyalty and dedication to making the world of food and beverage better for everyone. Kerry has proudly served the Kentwood community for over 16 years.”
While most will be off the job by April 21, a small group will remain for a few extra months to finish shuttering the plant.
