KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) — Pizza lovers, rejoice! Buddy’s Restaurant Pizzeria is bringing its legendary Detroit-style pizza to West Michigan.
The company confirmed to 24 Hour News 8 Monday that it will be opening its newest restaurant at 4061 28th Street SE in Kentwood.
“We look forward to seeing you in Grand Rapids!” the company stated in an email.
The 6,620 square-foot restaurant will have seating for 210 guests, including 20 seats on an outdoor patio. The company says the establishment will feature reclaimed beams from Detroit factories, mosaic floors and a garage door over the bar.
Buddy’s Pizza plans to include Grand Rapids craft beers on its menu, along with its signature brews.
Buddy’s Pizza has been hinting at its first West Michigan restaurant on social media for some time. On Jan. 19, the company tweeted its next location would be outside Southeast Michigan.
The automotive industry runs in our blood – and we love showing countless out-of-towners what #DetroitStyle pizza is all about at our Metro Detroit locations during @NAIASDetroit‘s public days, which begin today.
However, our next location will be outside Southeast Michigan. pic.twitter.com/UT5SFlk60K— Buddy’s Pizza (@buddyspizza) January 19, 2019
A day later, Buddy’s Pizza added to the intrigue in Beer City USA, tweeting “We knew our next location needed to be in a city with great local breweries – after all, beer and pizza belong together.”
Monday brought the biggest clue, when Buddy’s Pizza shared an MLive article about the Carrabba’s restaurant at 4061 28th Street in Kentwood that closed last year. The company tweeted, “That’s disappointing… wondering what’s going there next?” The tweet ended with a winking face emoji.
Buddy’s Pizza says it hasn’t set an exact opening date for the new restaurant, but plans to serve up its first slice in early spring. The company says it will notify its E-Club members as soon the exact date is set.
Buddy’s Pizza currently has a dozen locations, all on the southeast side of the state.
