KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) — An iconic Detroit pizzeria scheduled to open a Grand Rapids-area location this spring has announced its grand opening date.
Buddy’s Restaurant Pizzeria will open Tuesday, April 16 at its new location on 28th Street just east of East Paris in Kentwood. It will replace the shuttered Carrabba’s Italian Grill that closed in February 2017.
The restaurant will officially open its doors at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. To celebrate the grand opening, Buddy’s Pizza says it will give away a free pizza each month for a year to the first 100 people in line.
Buddy’s Pizza, which has 12 locations in the Greater Detroit area with three more on the way, announced in January it was coming the west side of the state.
“People have been asking for us to come out here for years and we’re very happy to say we’ve finally made it,” said Matt Heckert with Buddy’s Pizza.
The 6,620 square-foot restaurant on 28th street will have seating for 210 guests, including 20 seats on an outdoor patio. The company says the establishment will feature reclaimed beams from Detroit factories, mosaic floors and a garage door over the bar.

In addition to Detroit-style pizza, the restaurant will offer rotating beer taps with a selection of brews from West Michigan.
The new restaurant will bring 100 jobs to the area.
