KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) — At long last, Buddy’s Pizza is coming to West Michigan, and it’s bringing 100 jobs with it.
The iconic Detroit-style pizzeria is now taking job applications online for its new restaurant at 4061 28th Street SE in Kentwood.
Buddy’s Pizza says it picked the former Carrabba’s site for its first restaurant outside Metro Detroit because of popular demand.
“People have been asking for us to come out here for years and we're very happy to say we've finally made it,” said Matt Heckert with Buddy’s Pizza.
He says the restaurant’s rave reviews come down to good food.
“What makes Buddy's Pizza so good is our secret recipe of double hand-stretching fresh dough and steel blue pans, which allows the cheese to melt into the corners and down the sides. It caramelizes the Wisconsin brick cheese. And honestly there's nothing like it,” Heckert explained.
West Michigan’s first Buddy’s Pizza will also draw from its Detroit roots, with reclaimed beams from Motor City factories and a garage door over the bar in addition to mosaics on the floor.
The menu will also feature rotating beer taps, including some brews from West Michigan.
“What a better union than Beer City and the original Detroit-style pizza, Buddy's Pizza? Heckert said.
Heckert says they hope to open the new Buddy’s Pizza in late March or early April.
“We're very happy to be out here. We know we have a lot of fans, a lot of transplants from southeastern Michigan so we can't wait to get this thing up and running,” he added.
Heckert said Buddy’s Pizza has some upcoming plans to open more Buddy’s Pizza locations, “but we’re keeping a lid on it until they actually happen.”
