BBB warns of bogus invoice scheme in West Michigan

Kent County

GRANDVILLE, Mich. (WOOD) — The Better Business Bureau Serving Western Michigan is warning about a group sending out fake invoices to bilk unsuspecting businesses out of money.

The BBB says National Media Group claims to be a business search engine optimization service in Grandville. However, the BBB says the group sends bogus bills to businesses for SEO services it never performed. The BBB says the group hopes the victim won’t investigate the situation before paying the invoice.

One business said it received a $829 invoice from National Media Group for services it never asked or received. When the business disputed the bill, National Media Group said the business had agreed to a verbal contract, but couldn’t produce any proof.

Furthermore, the BBB says National Media Group’s website isn’t functioning and the address it lists doesn’t exist. While National Media Group lists Active Media Group as its invoice processor, that business claims to have no connection to National Media Group.

The BBB says National Media Group has also never answered any of the complaints listed on the bureau’s website.
