ROCKFORD, Mich. (WOOD) — Saturday was a special day in Rockford, as runners gathered for the annual Mitchell’s Run Thru Rockford.

The 5K run/walk, in its 20th installment, is a fundraiser for 22-year-old Mitchell Peterson — a man who’s been fighting muscular dystrophy since he was just 2 years old.

The event, which was founded in 2000, has raised more than $1 million to help find a cure for the disease.

WOOD TV8 sports anchor Larry Figurski emcees the event every year. It’s a special event for him, which was made even more special this year when his daughter, Raychel, won the race.
