WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) — Two people were hospitalized after a Wyoming apartment building caught fire Thursday night.

The fire broke out on the first floor of the building just before 9:30 on the 2200 block of 29th Street east of Byron Center Avenue.

Authorities on scene said about 10 people were trapped inside and residents reported the fire was blocking the building’s exits.

Firefighters successfully rescued those trapped and said all residents were accounted for.

Two people were taken to the hospital. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Utilities to the apartment building were shut off Thursday night and all residents were directed to area warming shelters for the night.

The cause of the fire is unknown and remains under investigation.
