1 killed, 1 injured in Kent Co. shooting

GRATTAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Kent County sheriff's deputies are investigating after one man was killed and another wounded in a shooting early Sunday.

It happened around 1:30 a.m. near Parle Avenue NE and Woodland Park Drive NE east of the Grattan Raceway in Grattan Township. Authorities say they found two victims with gunshot wounds when they arrived there.

One of them, 22-year-old Jacob Vanenk of Lowell, was taken to the hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

The other, 44-year-old Robert Morgan of Belding, was also taken to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Investigators say they know who fired the shots and that person is cooperating with their investigation. They say there is not a threat to the public.
