SOLON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman was killed and five others were injured in a crash near Cedar Springs Sunday night, according to MSP.

It happened around 10 p.m. on 17 Mile Road NE near Lime Lake Drive NE in Solon Township.

State police said a 2006 Chevy Avalanche, driven by a 35-year-old Sparta man, was heading westbound on 17 Mile Road when it collided head-on with a 2002 Chevy Impala, driven by a 28-year-old White Cloud woman.

A 50-year-old woman, who was a passenger inside the Impala, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to an MSP news release.

The driver of the Impala and another passenger as well as the driver of the Avalanche were flown by Aero Med to the hospital in critical condition. Two juvenile passengers inside the Avalanche were to taken to the hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, the release said.

The crash remains under investigation, but state police said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.

Authorities closed 17 Mile Road near the crash as authorities investigated. It has since reopened.
