GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) —  A man who allegedly called in a threat from Kent County to U.S. Sen. Cory Booker is now facing federal charges.

Rick Lynn Simmons is charged with interstate communication with threat to injure.

According to the federal indictment filed Jan. 9, Simmons called Booker’s New Jersey office on Oct. 26 and left a threatening voicemail containing profanity and a racial slur.

The indictment contained a transcription of the voicemail, which included at least three references to putting a gun to Booker’s face.

“Come on, you bring it on buddy. Just me and my wife and we got guns a blazin’. You wanna come in here?’ The message stated in part.

If convicted, Simmons faces as much as 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
