PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — Police are investigating after two people, a father and son, were stabbed and killed in Portage on Monday afternoon.
It happened around 3:20 p.m. at Davis Creek Apartments & Flats on Meredith Street south of S. Sprinkle Road, the Portage Department of Public Safety confirmed.
Police said that the stabbing was a result of a domestic dispute. They said a male suspect stabbed two male victims, who were taken to the hospital. The suspect was also taken to the hospital, but it is unclear why.
Neighbor Michelle Field was returning home at around 3:15 Monday afternoon when she says a man driving erratically almost rear-ended her car.
“He pulled in not all the way, and the (car) door flew open, and you can hear screaming and they left the (apartment) door open,” Field said. “It was traumatic. You could tell it was traumatic.”
The two victims, a 49-year-old from Kalamazoo and a 21-year-old from Portage, died at the hospital, police told News 8.
The two were father and son. Their family has been notified.
The suspect, a 27-year-old man from Portage, is in custody, police say.
“We’ve got kids around here,” Field said. “We all just look out for one another. I never expected this at all.”
A different neighbor told News 8 police were recently called to the apartment because of a party that involved a lot of screaming and yelling.
Officials say autopsies will be done Tuesday.
