RICHLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was killed when a pickup truck hauling a motor home jackknifed and rolled northwest of the village of Richland Thursday, police say.
It happened around 4 p.m. on M-89 west of 30th Street in Richland Township.
Michigan State Police say the driver lost control on some curves in the road, causing the pickup and motor home to jackknife. The truck was shoved off the road and rolled onto the driver’s side. The motor home did not roll, MSP said.
The passenger in the truck, 80-year-old Michael Smith of Holland, died at the scene.
The driver, a 78-year-old Holland woman, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
MSP said neither of the people in the truck were wearing their seat belts. It’s not yet known whether drugs or alcohol may have been involved.
