COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was killed and two others injured in a crash that closed a stretch of Sprinkle Road near Kalamazoo Friday night Friday night.

It happend around 11:30 p.m. on Sprinkel between H Avenue and East Main Street.

The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office says emergency responders called there found a two-car crash with both drivers seriously injured. They were taken to area hospitals.

One passenger, identified Monday as 24-year-old Austin Hankla of Kalamazoo, died at the scene.

Deputies determined that a southbound vehicle, driven by a 30-year-old from Kalamazoo, crossed the centerline and hit a northbound car driven by a 21-year-old from Kalamazoo, head-on. Hankla was in the northbound car.

The sheriff’s office said alcohol may have been involved, but added the investigation was still under investigation.

All northbound and southbound lanes between H Avenue and East Main Street were closed for hours before reopening around 3 a.m. Saturday, the Kalamazoo County dispatch said.
