IONIA, Mich. (WOOD) — Michigan State Police are warning residents about a caller posing as Lakeview law enforcement to try to bilk people out of money.
Troopers with the Lakeview Post say the suspect is using the Lakeview Police Department’s name and Lakeview State Police post’s phone number when asking would-be victims for money.
Investigators say the suspect is from the Ionia County area. So far, it does not appear anyone has fallen victim to the scheme, but state police have received calls from people, asking if the phone call was legitimate.
State police say they never ask for money from the public in any way. Troopers also urge anyone who answers a similar phone call to never give out their personal information over the phone.
