ORANGE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The Ionia County Sheriff’s Office believes a man who died at a campground Wednesday had a medical problem.

The man has been identified as 47-year-old Pedro Lira of Lansing.

Authorities said the call came in around 10:30 a.m. as a possible drowning at Lakeside Resort and Campground, located at 750 E. Grand River Avenue in Orange Township, south of Ionia.

Upon arrival, emergency responders took over life-saving efforts from campground staff who had pulled Lira from the water and began CPR until he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators have determined he may have had a pre-existing medical condition that caused him to go into medical distress and fall into the water.

***CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story identified the man who died as 61 years old, based on an initial report from authorities at the scene. The above story has since been updated with revised information provided by the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office.***
