BOSTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A man died after likely suffering a medical emergency and then crashing near Saranac Thursday afternoon.

The crash happened around 3 p.m. on eastbound I-96 near Hastings Road in Boston Township.

The Ionia County Sheriff’s Department said its preliminary investigation found Louis Rumsey, 50, of Lake Odessa, lost control of his Jeep when he suffered a medical emergency. The Jeep left the road and hit several small trees.

Emergency responders rushed Rumsey to the hospital, but he died.

The sheriff’s office said its investigation was ongoing to confirm the crash was caused by a medical emergency and the exact cause of Rumsey’s death.

Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have been involved.
