BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say a North Carolina woman was killed in a crash involving a semi-truck on I-96 in Ionia County.

The Ionia County Sheriff’s Office said shortly after 10 p.m. Monday that deputies responded to a report of a two-car crash on eastbound I-96 near Jackson Road in Berlin Township, north of Clarksville.

Investigators said a Chevrolet Silverado left the roadway, struck the cable barrier and went back into the roadway. A semi-truck tried to stop but was not able to before hitting the Silverado.

The driver of the Silverado — 38-year-old Kristin Vandersyde of Brevard, North Carolina — was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.

The crash remains under investigation.

The eastbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours as authorities investigated and worked to clear the scene. It has since reopened.
