IONIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A Greenville woman was seriously injured when her minivan collided with a semi-truck head-on north of Ionia Monday.
It happened around 2:15 p.m. on M-66 between Dildine and Parmeter roads in Ionia Township.
The Ionia County Sheriff’s Office says says 53-year-old Kimberlee Wotring was southbound when her car crossed into the northbound lanes. The driver of a northbound semi swerved to try to avoid a crash, but couldn’t.
Wotring was airlifted to a Grand Rapids hospital, where she was listed in serious condition. On Tuesday, authorities said her condition was stable but that she faced a long recovery process.
There were no reports of the driver of the semi, a 68-year-old Greenville man, being injured.
Authorities don’t yet know why Wotring’s vehicle crossed into the northbound lanes. Neither speed or alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash and both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
The road was shut down for hours while emergency responders and investigators were on the scene, but has reopened.
