SAUGATUCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A 54-year-old man from Hudsonville died after a crash on northbound Interstate 196 in Allegan County.

The crash happened around 3 p.m. Friday on the highway just south of Riverside Drive in Saugatuck Township.

Michigan State Police say a Toyota Forerunner was in the passing lane, driving past vehicles slowed by road construction. Troopers say the SUV then cut over to the other lane, where it ran into the back of a semi-truck.

The driver of the SUV, 54-year-old Brian Carlson of Hudsonville, died at the scene. Authorities closed the northbound lanes of I-196 for more than an hour to investigate and clean up the crash.>>MAP: West Michigan traffic conditions
