VICKSBURG, Mich. (WOOD) — Health officials have lifted the public health advisory for Sunset Lake in Kalamazoo County.
Samples taken on Monday from the bathing beach area at Sunset Lake Park on Page Street in the village of Vicksburg showed a “significant improvement in surface water quality,” according to a release from the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department.
The geometric mean of samples collected at Sunset Lake over the last 30 days recorded E. coli levels of 81.9 per 100 milliliter, which health officials say complies with Michigan’s Water Quality Standards for total body contact.
Several health advisories have been issued for Sunset Lake over the past two months due to high E. coli levels.
Health officials will continue to monitor the beach and are expected to collect samples again on Aug. 2.
