CALEDONIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Valley State University will get a double dose of March Madness: Both its men and women’s basketball teams are heading to the NCAA tournament.
The men claimed the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament bid when they knocked off Wisconsin-Parkside in the semi-finals with a buzzer-beater from Jeramiah Ferguson on Saturday.
The Lakers were NCAA tournament-bound regardless of the outcome of the GLIAC championship game against Davenport University because Davenport isn’t qualified yet for Division II postseason play. But that wasn’t enough for GVSU. The Laker men beat Davenport anyway, 80-70, earning GVSU its seventh title in program history.
