GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Grand Rapids Fire Department has achieved yet another milestone.
GRFD earned International Accreditation status, which basically proves that when compared to other fire departments around the world, Grand Rapids is among the best.
Only 216 fire departments worldwide have earned the accreditation.
“We always are continuously improving our operations and we’re giving citizens the best fire department in the country,” said acting GRFD chief Margaret Felix.
Grand Rapids Mayor Rosalynn Bliss and city commissioners recognized the achievement at city hall Tuesday morning.**Correction: A previous version of this article stated GRFD was the only fire department in Michigan to have earned the international accreditation. That was not accurate. The Portage fire department also has the accreditation, as does the Detroit Metro Airport Fire Authority. The erroneous line has been removed.
