GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman was killed when she was hit by a vehicle Saturday night in Grand Rapids.
It happened shortly before 6 p.m. near the intersection of South Division and Garden Street SE. A witness to the crash told Grand Rapids police that the woman walked into oncoming traffic.
Police say they found a middle-aged white woman lying in the street, unconscious, when they arrived on scene. She died a few moments later.
Authorities say the driver, a 33-year-old man from Walker, and his passenger remained on scene and cooperated with police.
A witness told police that a second vehicle may have been involved, striking the pedestrian again.
The Grand Rapids Police Department is asking anyone with additional information on the victim or a second vehicle to contact Officer Barthel or Officer Ewald. GRPD can be reached at at 616.456.3400.
The road was closed while officers investigated the area and emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
Alcohol and speed, authorities say, were not factors in this crash.
