GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Grand Rapids area funeral home remains open after a driver smashed into a side door.

The crash happened just after 8 a.m. Saturday at Arsulowicz Brothers Mortuaries at the corner of Third Street NW and Stocking Avenue NW west of Seward Avenue NW in the city’s west side.

The Grand Rapids Police Department said a Cadillac Escalade ran into one of the funeral home’s service doors. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene and ditched the SUV involved in the crash a few miles away.

Police say they located the vehicle and followed tracks through the snow that lead investigators to the driver’s location.

Authorities, currently investigating leads, say while no one is in custody, they have an idea who the driver was.

No one was hurt in this crash. It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol played a role in this crash.

It’s unclear how much damage the crash caused. The funeral home will remain open while repairs are made.
