GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Grand Rapids police say a crash on the city’s northwest side ended with one vehicle smashing into a funeral home.
It happened just before 9 a.m. Wednesday at Second Street and Stocking Avenue NW.
Sgt. Cathy Williams says a vehicle heading west on Second Street failed to stop for a stop sign, hitting a vehicle traveling north on Stocking Avenue. The impact of the crash caused the northbound vehicle to swerve into the Arsulowicz Brothers Mortuaries building, damaging its brick wall.
Steve Arsulowicz said the car punched through the wall and the front end was slightly inside the building.
“No one was there, luckily,” he said.
Police said the driver who hit the building went to the hospital with a foot injury. No one else was injured.
Arsulowicz said part of the building suffered “significant” structural damage which a mason and roofer will need to fix, but business will not be impacted.
The driver who caused the crash was ticketed.
