GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Van Andel Arena in downtown Grand Rapids will be completely smoke-free beginning in September.

There will no longer be a designated smoking area outside the arena and those who exit to smoke will not be allowed to come back inside. A release said the change is being made as part of “ongoing security enhancements.”

Other arenas in Michigan have similar policies in place, including Little Caesar’s Arena in Detroit, Michigan Stadium and Crisler Center in Ann Arbor, and Spartan Stadium and the Breslin Center in East Lansing.

The arena had previously banned smoking of any kind inside, which includes vaping and e-cigarettes.
