GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Police are investigating after a body was found in Grand Rapids Sunday.

The body was discovered in the area of Franklin Street and Dolbee Avenue SE. Police say it is that of a female, but did not release any information about her identity.

They are investigating the death as suspicious.

Police have not yet said when the body was found or by whom, nor have they said how the female may have died.

Family of a missing Kalamazoo woman who was last seen in Grand Rapids last week was on the scene Sunday night. They said she was last seen with a man who lives in a house police were searching. Police have not confirmed that case has any connection to the body.

A stretch of Franklin was shut down for hours while police were on scene and some residents were told they wouldn’t be able to get back into their houses right away.

Investigators had to wait on a search warrant so they could enter the house. The Special Response Team — Grand Rapids’ name for the SWAT team — was called in to clear the house to make sure it was safe for investigators. Shortly after 9 p.m., GRPD Sgt. Dan Adams said he expected forensics teams and detectives to remain on scene for some time to “do this right and do it very well.”

The 24 Hour News 8 crew on the scene saw police take one person, who was barefoot, into custody. Police said some people were found inside the house and were talking to investigators, but those people had not been arrested.

Investigators say the death is not connected to a shooting only a few blocks away Sunday afternoon that wounded two people.
